This is my 2.7t syncro passat (my-98), I have had the car from the year 2001. At the beginning of 2005 I changed original v6 engine to that audi a6 2.7t engine.
The car uses passats 5-gear manual gearbox (including clutch), it's been bearing the biturbo power for 42tkm now (few days ago I changed less driven gearbox, but I believe, that the old worn out cause of high mileage/track driving (not because of the huge torgue...)).
Mods elsewhere than engine:
-kw variante 1 stainless coilovers
-a8 brakes mod (312mm at front, 269mm at back), ferodo pads (ds3000 at front, ds2500 at back), brembo drilled front discs (been only few months now), ate racing brakefluid.
-18" oz superleggera/rs4 reps at summer/winter
-front antiroll bar removed, rear sportbackages stiffer one
-odyssey battery
-crash bar (inside of the front bumper) modified because of fmic
-no spare tire (but small compressor and patchbottle)
-front supframe stiffener bar
Mods related to engine:
-my -99 audi a6 2.7t engine
-fmic
-precats removed
-miltek 2x2.25" catback (stainless)
-forge bypasses
-remap (a bit conservative)
-3" tube at the bottom of the airfilterbox
-rs4 sparkblugs (NKG something)
-crankcase breather modified
